Welcome to #IndiePit, the first-ever pitch event for indie authors, by indie authors. We are super excited to shine a much-needed (and, in our humble opinion, long-overdue) spotlight on the indie/self-published community.Due to the nature of the X algorithm, pitches may not contain any of the following:
Links
Screenshots of reviews
CTA language (i.e. "buy my book", "click the link below", "DM me for a free copy", etc.)
Mentions of book retailers (i.e. Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, etc.)
Any language pulled directly from existing book listings online (i.e. copying and pasting your book blurb)
This event is for human-made books ONLY. Do not use this event to promote your AI-generated works. Please refrain from using AI-generated images to support your pitches. If we suspect your pitch contains AI or that your book was written using AI, you will be blocked from the event.Below, we have answered the most common FAQs about the event. If you do not see the answer to your question listed, send us an email at [email protected].
When is it?Our first event will be held on X on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 12 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. EST
What is it?#IndiePit is a pitch event exclusively for indie-published and self-published authors seeking any of the following:
More sales for existing works available for publish or pre-order
Beta readers for WIPs
Opportunities with small presses
How does it work?Authors, readers, beta readers, and small presses are all encouraged to participate by liking, reposting, and commenting on pitches.Authors/readers: Like and repost the pitches that stand out to you the most. If you really like the pitch, comment and ask the author for the link to their book (links will not be permitted in the pitches themselves to keep posts from getting buried by the algorithm).Beta readers: Look for the #SB (Seeking Betas) hashtag during the event. Like and repost the pitches that stand out to you the most. If you really like the pitch, comment and volunteer to be a beta reader for the project.Small presses: Look for the #SSP (Seeking Small Press) hashtag during the event. Like any pitches you feel would be a good fit for your list. Authors, be sure to keep an eye out for any small press likes during the event so you can follow up by sending in your manuscript for consideration.
What hashtags should I use?All posts should use the #IndiePit hashtag. As with any other pitch event, posts will be categorized by genre, audience, and stage of development.STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT

How often can I pitch? You may pitch up to three times during the event, either for three different books or the same book. Each pitch must be different to avoid being flagged as spam by the algorithm.
If I can't use links, reviews, or even mention the places where my book is available, how the heck am I supposed to pitch my book?We are so glad you asked! This is probably the most important part of this event. Successfully pitching your book to readers and small presses doesn't mean telling them that it's available or posting screenshots of positive reviews or even sharing the blurb. It's about showing off your creativity and giving them a sense of what you can offer them as a storyteller.Below are a few fun ways you can hook a reader with a compelling pitch without getting buried by the algorithm:
Tagline + Quick Pitch + Comp Title Formula
Example: A young girl attacked. An unbreakable pact. There's more in the woods than meets the eye.Eliza swore she’d never talk about what she did in the woods the night Renée died—or what she saw. But when history repeats itself, she’ll need to speak up or face the consequences.GOOSEBUMPS x PRETTY LITTLE LIARS x SHELTER
Moodboards

Movie Posters

Trope Lists

If Your Book Had a Playlist
If Your Book Was a Recipe
Form Rejection Spin-Off
Example: Dear K.T.,
Thank you for sending me your manuscript. Unfortunately, I just couldn't connect with your voicey FMC, unexpected plot twists, or swoon-worthy slow-burn romance.
Sell Your Book Speaking as One of Your Characters

I don't know how to make/don't have time to make graphic images. Can I simply share my book cover?Absolutely! However, we ask that you refrain from sharing the book cover more than once during the event. You can always use gifs, selfies, or photos of your book "in the wild" to get around coming across as spammy as well.
What programs can I use to make mood boards, movie posters, and the like?Canva is probably the best tool out there for creating such materials. Not only is it completely free to use, but it also has plenty of templates and stock images available to help you create the perfect graphic to accompany your pitch.Remember: Pitches with graphics tend to perform better than those without, so be sure to include one with your post to give it the best chance at getting seen.
